Twisters had its world premiere on July 8, 2024, at Cineworld Leicester Square in London. On July 10, it was distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, and on July 19, it was released in the US by Universal Pictures. Critics gave the movie relatively excellent reviews, and it has made $274.8 million worldwide.

Kate Carter resides in Oklahoma alongside her boyfriend, Jeb, and fellow storm chasers Javi, Addy, and Praveen. Alongside Dorothy V Doppler, the team discharges barrels of sodium polyacrylate beads into a tornado to lower its intensity and obtain funds for additional study. However, the amount of chemicals is insufficient to stop it and the crew is caught in the middle as it increases into an EF5. Addy, Praveen, and Jeb are slain, while Kate and Javi survive.

Five years later, Kate is employed in New York City at a NOAA office. Kate receives an offer from Javi, who works for Storm Par, a mobile tornado radar firm, to work with his team for one week to test a new phased-array radar tornado scanning system. Kate agrees to go only when Javi emails her a news article about a community being destroyed by a tornado. Together with Javi's business partner Scott, Kate and Javi join the Storm Par team in Oklahoma. The "Tornado Wrangler," Tyler Owens, a well-known storm chaser on YouTube, also travels from Arkansas to Oklahoma in an attempt to take advantage of a tornado outbreak that is expected. Along with Ben, the British journalist, Tyler is joined by his crew members Boone, Dani, Dexter, and Lily.

An EF1 tornado that made landfall at a neighboring wind farm is being pursued by Storm Par and Tyler's team. Kate has a panic attack, so she drives away instead of helping Javi put up the last scanner. The group follows a second storm, which results in another EF1 and a satellite that breaks off. When Storm Par notices that the Satellite is getting stronger, it rushes after it and destroys the third scanner when it reaches EF3 strength. Just barely escaping, Kate and Javi head to Crystal Springs, a nearby town devastated by a storm, to assist with relief work with Tyler's crew. After writing off Tyler and his group as glory seekers, Kate is shocked to hear that they donate goods proceeds to tornado victims, while Storm Par investor Marshall Riggs makes money by buying land destroyed by tornadoes.

They start to get along during a local Stillwater rodeo that Tyler takes Kate to. Kate takes Tyler and the other locals to safety in an abandoned hotel pool when a powerful tornado strikes. Following their argument concerning Riggs' motivations, Javi accuses Kate of being responsible for the murders of their coworkers. Kate withdraws to her mother's Sapulpa farm, distraught. Tyler investigates and finds Kate's earlier studies on the disruption experiment with the tornado. Tyler offers to help Kate redo the experiment, but Kate eventually agrees. They throw the beads into a passing tornado the following day, but it doesn't go away. An apologetic Javi provides scanning data, which Kate uses to conjecture a modification to the experiment to address an earlier error—namely, the addition of silver iodide.
The villagers are evacuated inside a neighboring movie theater by Kate, Tyler, and their group. Tyler gets trapped by rubble and a derailing trolley. Kate tries her hardest to free him, but Tyler is saved when Javi shows up there. Kate crashes Tyler's truck into the middle of the tornado. After a brief battle with the controls, she shoots the polyacrylate beads into the tornado in addition to the silver iodide, but the car flips over. Just as the precautions take place, the tornado tears open the theater, almost yanking Lily and Tyler out, weakening the tornado. After saving Kate, the group rejoices over the tornado's dissipation.

Tyler follows up with Kate to make amends after a while while she waits for her flight to New York. The two head straight toward the storm after hearing that heavy winds are causing flight delays. A climactic montage reveals that Tyler, Javi, and Kate have joined a new tornado radar company and that Kate is the subject of Ben's narrative rather than Tyler.
