Venom 2018 Marvel Legends movie
The Marvel Comics character of the same name is the subject of the 2018 American superhero movie Venom, which was released by Sony Pictures Releasing and produced by Columbia Pictures in collaboration with Tencent Pictures, Marvel, Arad Productions, Matt Tolmach Productions, and Pascal Pictures. The screenplay for the first movie in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU) was written by Jeff Pinkner, Scott Rosenberg, and Kelly Marcel. The film was directed by Ruben Fleischer. Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, and Tom Hardy play Eddie Brock and Venom, respectively. In the movie, Venom, an extraterrestrial symbiote whose species intends to attack Earth, gives Eddie, a struggling journalist, abilities.
Sony made an attempt to create a spin-off movie centered on Venom following her introduction in Spider-Man 3 (2007), but the project was shelved (because of problems with the company's current Spider-Man series). Work on an updated version that would launch a new shared world with the Marvel characters that aren't Spider-Man and for which the studio owned the film rights started in March 2016. Additionally, Sony had planned for Venom to coexist in the same universe as Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), but in the end, the two movies separated. After Fleischer and Hardy were added in May 2017, Rosenberg and Pinkner were scheduled to complete the script in March 2017. Marcel then joined to revise it. Filming was done in Atlanta, New York City, and San Francisco between October 2017 and January 2018. The comic book miniseries Venom: Lethal Protector (1993) and the narrative arc "Planet of the Symbiotes" (1995) served as the main inspirations for the movie. After Black Panther (2018), Ludwig Göransson's second Marvel cinematic music was commissioned for this one.
October 1, 2018, saw Venom make its stage debut at the Regency Village Theater. On October 5, the film was launched in theaters nationwide. Although the film got mixed reviews from reviewers, Hardy's portrayal and the character's bond with Venom were highly appreciated. As a result, the movie broke many box office records for an October release and went on to become the ninth highest-grossing movie of 2018. It earned over $856 million worldwide. Two sequels are slated for release in 2024: Venom: Let There Be Carnage (October 1, 2021) and Venom: The Last Dance (October 25, 2024).
A spacecraft from the bioengineering company Life Foundation finds a comet coated in symbiotic lifeforms while searching space for new livable planets. Four samples are returned to Earth by the probe, but one escapes and leads to the ship's crash in Malaysia. After rescuing the last three and bringing them to their San Francisco research center, the Life Foundation learns that the symbiotes are dependent on their oxygen-breathing hosts for survival and that these hosts frequently reject the symbiosis tragically. Investigative journalist Eddie Brock learns of these human experiments through a confidential document that his fiancée, Anne Weying, a lawyer putting together a litigation defense on behalf of the Life Foundation, has in her hands. Eddie and Anne lose their jobs as a result of Eddie questioning Life Foundation CEO Carlton Drake about the trials. Anne breaks off her connection with Eddie as a result.
Drake's symbiosis experiments are getting closer to fruition six months later, but one of his symbiotes passes away from negligence. One of Drake's scientists, Dora Skirth, approaches Eddie because she doesn't agree with his tactics and wants to expose him. She assists Eddie in breaking into the research center to look for proof, and he finds out that one of the test participants is Maria, a homeless friend. Eddie tries to save Maria, but before he knows it, the symbiote that was possessed by her has transferred to his body, killing her. Eddie gets away and immediately starts acting strangely. When Dr. Dan Lewis, Anne's new lover, examines Eddie, he finds the symbiote after he contacts her for assistance. Drake kills both of the imprisoned symbiotes by exposing Skirth to them. The only known surviving specimen is the symbiote that resides within Eddie.
In an attempt to get Eddie's symbiote back, Drake dispatches mercenaries, but the monster that symbiotes surrounds Eddie and repels the assailants. Eddie is subsequently introduced to it as Venom, who informs him that the comet is looking for worlds where the symbiotes may take over and eat the population. Eddie exploits the superhuman abilities that the symbiote has given him, and Venom promises to spare him if he aids the symbiotes in achieving their objective. Eddie enters his former place of business to report proof of Drake's misdeeds, but SWAT officers are there to stop him. Eddie is taken to Lewis's office by Anne, who witnesses him changing to make his getaway, where they inform him that the symbiote is causing Eddie's internal organs to deteriorate. Eddie observes that the symbiote is susceptible to fire and high-pitched sounds. Anne uses an MRI scanner to separate Venom from Eddie, who is then captured by Drake's men, despite Venom's assertion that the organ damage can be repaired.
In the meantime, Riot, the fourth symbiote, travels by body-hopping from Malaysia to San Francisco. As a result of their friendship, Drake decides to board Riot on a Life Foundation spacecraft to gather and transport the remaining symbiotes to Earth. To release Eddie, Anne unwillingly forms a relationship with Venom through a dog. After Eddie and Venom reunite, the latter claims that Venom's encounters with Eddie have persuaded it to assist in defending Earth against his kind, and the two work with Anne to stop Riot and Drake. Following a protracted struggle, Riot and Drake are killed when Venom destroys the probe during takeoff, causing it to explode. Eddie goes back to journalism after the event, but Anne thinks that Eddie and Venom are no longer connected and that Venom perished in the explosion as well. Still, the two maintain their covert friendship and go out to eliminate criminals to save San Francisco.
