Kandahar, also known as Mission Kandahar in Canada, is an American spy action thriller film from 2023 written and directed by Mitchell LaFortune and Ric Roman Waugh. In addition to acting as the film's producer, Gerard Butler is the film's lead. Other cast members include Ali Fazal, Corey Johnson, Mark Arnold, Vassilis Koukalani, Bahador Foladi, Nina Toussaint-White, and Travis Fimmel. The plot, which is loosely based on true events, centers on a CIA agent and his interpreter as they escape Afghanistan when their clandestine mission is discovered.

Open Road Films premiered the movie in theaters on May 26, 2023.

Tom Harris is an independent covert agent employed by the CIA to plant malware at a covert nuclear development site in Iran. Tom poses as a field technician for a telecoms contractor based in Switzerland. He accomplishes his goal when the malware makes the facility self-destruct, stopping the Iranians from obtaining further nuclear weapons.

British journalist Luna Cujai has been under observation by the Iranian government. A whistleblower provides her with proof of the CIA's continuous efforts to undermine Iran's nuclear development. Farzad leads an Iranian security organization that arrests her after the facility is destroyed. She informs the Iranians that because their contracts are adjacent to government installations, she believes there is a connection between the Swiss contractor and the facility's demolition. Oliver, Harris's cooperative accomplice, is killed the following day by the Iranian Special Force after both of their identities are revealed.

Tom departs Iran and travels via Dubai to London. His flight to London is delayed while he is in Dubai, so he goes to see Roman Chalmers, his CIA handler. Roman, a convert to Islam, presents himself as a socialite from Dubai, a life he truly detests. Roman says he forced this meeting by delaying the flight. Tom agrees to take a position in Herat, Afghanistan, under Roman's lucrative CIA contract.

Following his arrival in Herat, Tom learns through an intelligence leak that he was the operative behind the nuclear facility's destruction. The mission in Herat is canceled as he has now revealed his identity. Tom and his Afghan-American interpreter, Muhammad "Mo" Doud, follow Roman to a Kandahar extraction site. When Farzad and Pakistani security agencies find out that Tom is in Herat, they both deploy agents to capture him, with Pakistan hoping to sell Tom for a ransom. Farzad and ISI agent Kahil Nassir are chasing Tom and Mo, but they manage to get away from both of them and head into the desert.

Farzad attacks Tom and Mo in a chopper when they are traveling to Kandahar. Tom murders Farzad and the crew of the chopper by destroying it. Tom and Mo, who are now on foot, ask Tom's friend—an Afghan warlord who isn't connected to the ruling Taliban—for assistance. Mo tells Tom and the warlord that years ago, the warlord killed Mo's son. He gives Tom and Mo a car even though it enrages the warlord, and they leave his camp.

Roman, in the meantime, cuts off contact with the CIA and travels to Afghanistan to enlist in the Afghan SF Commandos under the guise of an ISIS-K squad. Kahil pays a Taliban warlord who captures Tom and Mo. Tom believes his friend the warlord sold him out. Tom and Mo's captors' compound is attacked by Roman and the commando troops. The warlord of the Taliban is slain. When Kahil gets to the battleground, he discovers that the attack was a CIA-backed hoax. As the fight rages on, Roman, Tom, and Mo drive out of the compound. Kahil plans another Taliban squad to intercept Tom since she believes he will utilize an abandoned CIA airbase to extract information.

Kahil attacks Tom, Roman, and Mo's car as they arrive at the extraction spot. After receiving fatal injuries, Roman leaps off the car to get some rest. Roman recites the Shahada before passing away. Once their car is wrecked by the Taliban fighters, Tom battles Kahil and leaves him with serious injuries. An unapproved missile strike against the remaining Taliban assailants is ordered by a CIA director. Tom and Mo can flee on a British military cargo plane as a result of this. While Tom and Mo are reunited with their families, the British journalist is freed.
