Deepwater Horizon

Based on the Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico, Deepwater Horizon is a 2016 American biographical disaster film. It was directed by Peter Berg from a script by Matthew Sand and Matthew Michael Carnahan. Starring are Kurt Russell, Gina Rodriguez, Dylan O'Brien, John Malkovich, Mark Wahlberg, and Kate Hudson. It's based on a piece by David Barstow, David Rohde, and Stephanie Saul titled "Deepwater Horizon's Final Hours" that appeared in The New York Times on December 25, 2010.

On April 27, 2015, principal photography got underway in New Orleans, Louisiana. The film debuted at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival[5] and on September 30, 2016, it was distributed in theaters nationwide. Despite getting mostly favorable reviews, it was a box office failure, making slightly less than $122 million globally on a $110 million budget. The studio lost between $60 and $112 million as a consequence. The movie received nominations for two Oscars (Best Sound Editing and Best Visual Effects) at the 89th Academy Awards, as well as a BAFTA Award (Best Sound) at the 70th British Academy Film Awards.
